Heritage
Deep customer understanding
City Jewellers are renowned for our close attention to customer service, built up through years of experience.
Our owners, the Shepherd family, are proud to trace their roots to the very heart of Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter.
The grandfather of current owner Paul Shepherd was the curator of the Birmingham School of Jewellery from 1922 and 1964. Paul’s father Colin was born in the School’s living accommodation in 1932.
Colin went on to open his first shop in 1955 at 268 Lozells Road, Handsworth. Paul has the jewellery business in his blood, having established great success through his own career with City Jewellers.
The Shepherd family opened their first shop in Lichfield in 1998, with the business moving to Bore Street in 2019.
As a third generation family jewellers we have built a strong reputation for trust and service, playing our part in the success of the West Midlands jewellery sector for many years.
The link with the region’s past continues, with Partner Adam Hogg having learned his goldsmith qualifications through the Birmingham School of Jewellery.
Customers visiting City Jewellers appreciate that our staff can draw upon a wealth of formal training and extensive experience in helping every client to make the right choice.
As the business celebrates 25 years in Lichfield in 2023, customers can be sure to get personal service every time they visit.
Strength through partnerships
Customers of City Jewellers benefit from buying from an independent retailer which draws upon the strengths of a wider network.
City Jewellers are proud members of the Company of Master Jewellers, the largest jewellery and watch buying group in the UK and Ireland, which was founded in 1980.
The CMJ is a membership organisation made up of more than 150 industry-leading suppliers and service providers, along with more than 400 of the UK and Ireland’s best independent jewellery stores.
As part of the CMJ, we partner retailers and suppliers together to work collaboratively and network, for the good of each individual business, as well as independent retail as a whole.
